Academic or General Training: choose your practice module
Choose the module that matches the test required by the organisation receiving your score.
Confirm the requirement first
Check the official requirement of your university, employer, professional body or immigration authority before booking. The test type and minimum scores depend on that organisation and purpose. A practice website cannot decide eligibility for you.
What changes between the modules?
IELTS Academic is commonly used for higher education and professional registration. General Training is commonly used for migration and training outside degree study. Reading and Writing tasks differ between the modules; Listening and Speaking use the same test formats.
General Training Writing Task 1 is a letter. Academic Task 1 involves describing visual information. Both modules include a Task 2 essay. Use the official test descriptions when planning full exam preparation.
What changes in our free assessment?
Your module selection changes the reading passage and questions. The short assessment shares its listening activity, Task 2 essay and speaking practice. It does not include either version of Task 1 and is not a full-length mock.
Your next step
Once you know which module you need, choose it on the free assessment page. Complete one attempt, save the basic results and use the answer explanations to identify your next practice task.
